The scrunchie was invented in 1986. It’s no too long ago, right?. It was invented by Romy Revson, a night club singer, and pianist. Her purpose was to create something with fabric instead of plastic or rubber bands to avoid damaging her hair. Revson patented the design in 1987. Eventually, she sold her hair accessory to the brand Scunci.
The scrunchies came back in 2017 when Balenciaga showed in its Resort 2018 collection. See below one of the pictures posted on Vogue.
